Talus - Office Development Edinburgh

Following the refurbishment of the Venue Studios, our Edinburgh office has developed a proposal on an adjacent sister site.

The design response to the challenging site borrows from geological formations on Calton Hill and Arthur's Seat, which form the backdrop to the main vista underneath the Regents bridge; this is articulated in the faceted elevation that follows the curve of the site, as an abstraction of the rocks tectonic geometry. It is this composition, where the building is expressed as a formation of rocks at the foot of a cliff that lends the development its name, "Talus".

The materials play an active role in overcoming the site constraints; the green roof is a nod to the residential development directly above the site. The first floor splays forward from the ground, furthering the fragmented nature of the façade and helping to alleviate the blind corner. The resulting internal space is dynamic, and the crevice-inspired windows maximise light from the south west aspect. The circulation and meeting rooms, at the south and north end respectively, are articulated to visually flank the building.

There is no doubt this site needs a signature building and we are delighted with the Talus design. This building makes a strong statement and our Client Plum Developments are now looking for an occupier whose image fits that design and with whom they can work to complete this bespoke development.
