CIOB Award Win for the Think Low Carbon Centre

Jefferson Sheard Architects and Barnsley College celebrated a win last Friday at the CIOB Celebrating Construction in South Yorkshire (CCISY) Awards 2012.

Their recently completed project, the Think Low Carbon Centre, was announced winner of the ambitemp Renewable Technologies Award, recognising the Centre’s commitment to carbon reduction and innovative use of new technologies.

The project attracted a £2.75m investment from the European Regional Development Fund. This was through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme 2007-2013, with the remainder of the project funded by the College.

Mark Fannon, Director at Jefferson Sheard, was there to collect the award and commented: “I was very pleased to receive this award on behalf of the whole project team. The Think Low Carbon Centre is an exciting building that is making a practical and positive contribution to the development and implementation of sustainable technologies. This project looks set to play a major part in fulfilling the increasing demand for green skills and knowledge in the region and I look forward to the future benefits this will bring.”

The Think Low Carbon Centre, a knowledge transfer hub for renewable technologies and sustainable construction techniques, is the first Centre of its kind in Yorkshire and the Humber and was shortlisted in four categories at the event.

Not only was this innovative Centre designed and constructed to be energy efficient, but the project also uses renewable technologies and sustainable building features to allow building users to research and explore the future of sustainable construction.
