New Facilities for Prestigious Independent School
Jefferson Sheard Architects is winner of a design competition to provide a new Learning Resource Centre and state-of-the-art Science and Music buildings for the esteemed independent school Hymers College, in Hull.
Hymers College was recently positioned fourteenth in the country for A Level results and occupies a Grade II Listed 19th Century building set in forty five acres of grounds including Hull’s former Botanical Gardens.
Jefferson Sheard’s innovative designs incorporate the school’s much-loved vintage gymnasium into a brand new, future-proofed Learning Resource Centre for the 21st Century. The modern designs for the new teaching and learning facilities reflect the school’s architectural heritage and its outstanding academic success.
Jefferson Sheard’s Design Director, Clare Ailward, said: “The proposals for a new contemporary Learning Resource Centre seek to complement the historic setting and are rooted in the tradition of an academic quad, reinstating that space as the heart of the school campus.
The open plan interior is welcoming and encourages informal interaction, creating a range of places for individual or group study.
It is a pleasure to be involved in this exciting project and to work alongside Hymers College in realising their educational vision.”
