Requirement
Jefferson Sheard was commissioned by East Riding College as Lead Designer for its new St Mary's Walk Campus in Bridlington.
The project is the realisation of Phase 1 of the College's Property strategy and involved the disposal of their site at Carnaby with the Construction, Motor Vehicle and Engineering centre uses being transferred to the new development at St. Mary's Walk. The college required us to rationalise existing teaching space which provided a distinctive, prominent new entrance and building with top of the range, energy efficient learning environments to deliver a range of vocational curriculum courses that attract and entice students to the college.
Our Solution
- A stunning, sweeping, s-shaped building which houses general teaching facilities with the latest in teaching technology, from science laboratories to commercial areas like hair and beauty salons and workshops for construction and engineering. The fin walls focus and define the fact that the Priory is situated to the North of the development.
- The new campus has taken into consideration the ‘green' credentials that make it one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in East Yorkshire. The new systems provide greater efficiencies that will last for generations; these include ‘ground source heating', ‘natural ventilation' and ‘light/movement sensors' etc.
