Requirement
This mixed use scheme makes clever use of a small corner site in Sheffield's busy, popular and expanding Cultural Industries Quarter (CIQ). It combines our own headquarters over two floors, plus 23 one and two bedroom apartments.
Our solution
- This is the first purpose built office complex in the CIQ. It's an established commercial area, but most make use of converted factory buildings. This was an opportunity to produce an important new piece of architecture for the area.
- The first two storeys provide our new office space, including reception and meeting space, bathed in light thanks to floor to ceiling windows and providing a great façade onto Brown St.
- Centrally located in the city, this was also a chance to create a special city living experience, providing a little ‘something different' from other city centre developments.
- The interior spec is high - natural bamboo flooring, floor to ceiling glazing and high quality fixtures and fittings give Fulcrum an edge against the massive residential blocks popping up across the city. So much so, that all units sold well before completion.
- We found just enough space to the side of the building, on the corner, to create a little landscaped site - a tiny oasis for staff and residents to relax, people watch and chat.
- We are extremely proud of the finished scheme having worked as architects, landscape designers, interior designers and part client for the project. If anyone visiting our head office wishes to see an example of our work we just need to point at the building we're in!
